Battle Of The Benches 2013.
In the year that has passed since the first ‘Battle of the Benches’ we’ve constantly had people coming into the shop asking when the next one will be. Well we just did Battle of the Benches 2.

We often go rolling around Cape Town after work, around town and into the suburbs to places like Claremont. Donovyn has a Canon film camera and is always shooting random pics. Here are a few of his skate-related photos. Check out Don’s blog to see more of his photos.
Baseline is not just a retail shop, it’s a group of like-minded individuals who collectively form a skateboard family. We don’t just sell skate products, we cruise the streets of Cape Town together, go on trips and more often than not end up partying together after skateboarding. Owners, staff and team riders – Meet the Baseline family!
(Yann wasn’t in town the day we shot the photo but he comes through with a banger in the video!)
Our good friend and fellow shop rider, Loucas Polydorou took some pretty rad polaroids of the Baseline family on our year end party.
Go check out his tumblr for the rest of the polaroids and a bunch of other rad photos.
Keep and eye out for the next AV and Session for more evidence about our little weekend away in Langebaan.
It’s no secret that we’re Independent truck people but if you’re going to ride anything else then there can only be one alternative. We now have Venture trucks and tees in-store. TX rides them, you can too!
All out trucks can be found on our online store.
The Funisu boys had their first tour and it was a banger!
Since inception, Nixon has focused its collaborative efforts on supporting the interests and needs of the Nixon team. For Paul, Torey, Ryan, Danny and Colin a collaboration that mixes their interests of skateboarding and music delivered in a bundle that only Plan B and Nixon could do further illustrates Nixon’s commitment to team-designed, custom-built products focused on high-quality design and style.
Our main man Kanya Spani took first place in the South African amateur contest at the Maloof Money Cup. He won himself R8000 but the way he killed it, it should have been a bigger cheque (last year the winner got R20 000). Congrats bruv!
Yann Horowitz recently got on the adidas Skateboarding South African team where he joins fellow Baseline team riders Pieter Retief and Khulu Dlamini. The lads just got back from a Durban skate trip where they welcomed Yann to the team in his own hometown. Watch online here and in the new AV 16 DVD!
We have a handful of limited edition one-off decks in-store:

The adidas boys have another awesome edit out, with the guys skating around Cape Town making the city look too sick!
Here’s the clip as well as some info on the team.
Pieter Retief:
Being an integral part of adidas Skateboarding team since day one, Pieter has not only a creative mind but also the passion to grow skateboarding in South Africa. Skateboarding has taken him places he’d never dreamt of before and has given him the opportunity to work with people that share the same undying passion to skate. A friendly and open-minded person, who is easy to approach and always willing to do most things for the love of skateboarding.
Jansen van Staden:
Co-owner of Plankie Skateboards and adidas Skateboarding Team Rider, Jansen is a man with copious amounts of patience, understanding and respect for others. His love for skateboarding has fuelled by other love: photography. Wherever Jansen goes so does his camera allowing him to document what he loves.
Aged 26 and originally from Pretoria, Jansen now lives in Cape Town where you can catch him most days either skating between Vredehoek and the Cape Town CBD or sitting somewhere patiently waiting for that perfect moment to capture a timeless image.
Yann Horowitz:
A recent addition to the adidas Skateboarding Team in July 2012, it’s often said there’s too much going on in Yann’s mind to sometimes really understand what’s on his mind!
Hailing from Durban, Yann is described as a certified ‘Circus Ninja’ that has boundless energy when he’s on his skateboard, can entertain you with his rap lyrics, mind blowing skating transitions and seemingly never ending back flips.
Khulu Dlamini:
Originally from Durban, Khulu has been floating around Cape Town for the last year or so. He became part of the adidas Skateboarding Team in early 2012, and already he’s become famous for being a party animal, a ladies man and a damn fine skateboarder too! Oh, and rumour has it that Khulu likes to look fresh on and off his skateboard and that taking 20 shirts on a weekend away is not an unusual occurrence for him!
A Friday find from each coast of the USA:
